Suggested Travel Itinerary
Bryce Area

The following adventures will allow you to stay at one location for a few days, letting you unpack and return to your same lodging at the end of each day. Following are suggestions to help you plan your "Hub and Spoke" adventures:

ADVENTURE AND SCENIC BEAUTY AWAIT YOU IN BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK COUNTRY!

The following day-trip recommendations are designed to allow you to unpack once and enjoy adventures while still returning to your same lodging each evening. Remember that many of the suggested activities below can be enjoyed whether you stay in Bryce, Panguitch, Tropic or Cannonville.

Day 1: Bryce Canyon National Park

Begin by spending time at the visitors center and museum to brush up on information about the park, before you explore. Enjoy the miles of colorful sculpted pinnacles and spires by car, shuttle, foot or horseback. During the winter, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are a great way to experience the park. Other activities available for your consideration include 4-wheel off road adventures, scenic helicopter flights, or explore the Paunsagaunt Wildlife Museum in Panguitch.

Day 2: Highway 12

This morning head east and experience the unique rock formations at Kodachrome Basin and Escalante Petrified Forest State Parks. Continue eastward with a stop at Calf Creek Recreation Area — a hike to the lower falls should not be missed!

Time permitting, travel on to Boulder and explore the Anasazi Indian Village State Park before heading back to your lodging.

Day 3: Capitol Reef National Park

Just a short drive from your home base, you can visit the newly created Grand Staircase of the Escalante National Monument. Covering almost 2 million acres, the monument gets its name from its 5 picturesque geological steps, carved by the Escalante River. This remote wilderness area is rich in history with over 300 archeological sites. After finishing your excursion, proceed north to Capitol Reef National Park. The rugged landscape of Capitol Reef is a maze of brightly colored cliffs and terraces. The nearly impassable ridges were called "reefs" by pioneers and the dome shaped rock formation reminded them of the country’s Capitol. Thus, Capitol Reef. When you see the panoramic canyons and buttes, you’ll know why the infamous Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch used the area as a hideout.

Day 4: Highway 143, Panguitch Lake & Brian Head

Delight in a day of fishing at pristine Panquitch Lake one of Utah's most popular fishing spots. You can also enjoy hiking and mountain biking in this picturesque area.

After catching your limit at the lake, continue west to Cedar Breaks and the Brian Head Ski Resort where you’ll find downhill & cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in the winter and mountain biking and hiking in the summer.
